Modern Kitchen

Can a Modern Kitchen be at once light, warm and inviting, and yet primarily toned coal-black? It can – and the Onyx project is proof.

All clad in a continuous swathe of European-made, Consentino ‘Laurent’ Dekton Engineered Stone, the splashback, peninsula top and waterfall end cascade into the room. This premium material is among the hardest-wearing and most stunningly genuine for kitchens worldwide. A three-seater breakfast bar and hidden push-to-open service cupboards are incorporated into the outside of the peninsula.

Within the bold benchtop are set a Mercer Duro Granite ‘Milan’ Bowl & ¾, Mercer Aurora Gooseneck Mixer in warm brass, integrated glass-ceramic Guzzanti cooktop, and pop-up Micasa Downdraft Rangehood in Black Glass.

The custom warm-black cabinetry throughout the Onyx kitchen makes considered use of integrated Ezi-Venice handles, with push-to-open doors above working height. Full-height cupboard doors offer reliable ease of access. Exciting aerospace-orange panels enliven the inside of select cupboards.

Ultra heavy-duty cookware and dinnerware drawers with open fronts are an ideal alternative to plain cupboard shelves. Integrated, onyx-themed appliances include wall ovens and microwave from Midea Master Kitchen, and a two-drawer Fisher & Paykel dishwasher.

Any threat of a dim space is removed by this Modern Kitchen’s bright, hearty LED lighting strips and their broad, diffuse glow recast from the white ceiling and floor tiles. These LED strips are craftily set in the negative detail at the tops of the high cabinetry, and in the kickplate recession near the floor. Finally, a model two-way bar light throws light up and down above the sink.
